Technology has Changed Society's Expectations of Mass Media and Culture

Technology and Change in Media (Cinema) and Culture

(Ormanli, 2019) In his book “Conference on Communications and Technology,” he argues that technology has taken over all aspects of life and that cinemas are no longer just places to show films. As streaming TV and video platforms, DVD, Pay TV, digital movies, and online series become available anytime and anywhere, you can watch movies on Netflix; the Internet has brought other sources of entertainment in competition with movies, sports, etc. Choices and alternative means of entertainment shortened the production period; they also gave studios another place to sell their productions, abnormal time and place where they were shown and marketed, and changed where films were stored and how they were sold. For example, you can watch them directly from home without needing CDs and DVDs instead of coming to cinemas and theaters. Now you can watch movies and listen to music via YouTube, Netflix, and other platforms.

It was stated in a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center (2010) that Seven out of ten adult Internet users (69%) - or nearly half (52%) of all adults in the United States - have used the Internet to watch or download video.  They are the largest consumers of online video.  Video is considered the most attractive multimedia, confirming that the various video sources appeared as entertainment means that surpassed television and cinema.

Communication technology seemed to be the alternative to everything in relationships, transactions, business, news, and entertainment. You do not need a specific place or time to do anything. You do not need to travel to attend a conference. You do not need to go to cinemas to watch movies. You do not need to go to the theater to watch the play. Or concerts, music, all this may be in your hands on your mobile phone, and you can choose what you want in a few seconds and add to that social media it offers a variety of content, including video, audio, and image, in an attractive way and fast access.
